Corsica is het grootste eiland van Frankrijk en staat bekend om zijn prachtige natuur. Tot voor kort was dit alleen bekend voor liefhebbers maar sinds de Tour de France in 2013 weet de hele wereld het. Piana ligt aan de westkust van Corsica ligt op misschien wel het allermooiste plekje aan de zee.

Het dorp is met name bekend om zijn de Calanques, hoge rotsen met diepe baaien. Een soort van fjorden in de Middellandse Zee die je ook tegenkomt bij Cassis ten zuiden van Marseille. Het landschap is behoorlijk indrukwekkend en staat ook op de UNESCO werelderfgoedlijst.

Piana ligt boven op een rots waar je perfect dit geologische circus en de golf van Porto kan overzien. Het dorp kan in de zomer behoorlijk druk zijn en je doet er dan ook goed aan om Piana aan het einde van de middag te bezoeken. Een hapje eten kan hier uitstekend want er zijn meer dan voldoende restaurants op één van de schaduwrijke pleintjes.
