Pesmes ligt op een strategische plek top de weg tussen Grau en Dole in Franche-Comté. Het dorp kent hierdoor een lange en nogal geweldadige geschiedenis voordat het aan het einde van de zeventiende eeuw voorgoed bij Frankrijk kwam. Ondanks dit turbulente verleden is er nog genoeg van het verleden in Pesmes te bewonderen. De ligging boven de rivier Ognon is prachtig.

Het kasteel uit de dertiende eeuw in het dorp is niet helemaal meer compleet, maar het is zeker nog wel de moeite waard. Het kerkje van Saint Hilaire stamt ook uit deze tijd. De meeste huizen uit het dorp zijn minder oud maar daarom niet minder mooi. In het centrum van het dorp staan enkele fraaie huizen uit de zestiende en zeventiende eeuw. Deze werden onder andere bewoond door wijnbouwers die rondom Pesmes hun wijngaarden hadden. En die zijn er nu nog dus je kan hier prima een flesje wit nuttigen.
