Mornac-sur-Seudre ligt tien kilometer van de Franse westkust tussen Rochefort en Royan. Toch is de zee hier nooit ver weg want het dorp ligt in een kweldergebied met een rechtstreekse verbinding met het open water waar al eeuwen zout wordt gewonnen. Nu worden hier massaal oesters gekweekt en liefhebbers van deze fruit du mer kunnen hier dan ook hun hart ophalen.

Het dorp heeft heerlijk smalle straatjes waar je ‘s zomers heerlijk kan wandelen en slenteren. Eten kan ook prima want er zijn genoeg restaurantjes en andere tentjes.

Het kerkje is zeker interessant. Het staat op fundering die is gemaakt door Merovingers, dat is een vroeg middeleeuws volk dat over Frankrijk heerste, en heeft bovendien zeer oude fresco’s uit de elfde eeuw. Even naar binnen dus!

De kwelders staan ook gerant voor vertier. Een wandeling door dit bijzondere landschap is zeker een aanrader maar je kan ook een kano huren om zo de boel vanaf het water te bekijken.

Fietsen kan hier trouwens ook uitstekend. Wie iets meer cultureel wil kan een bezoek brengen aan een zout drogerij. Daar drogen ze zout en dat is wel een dingetje hier.

Zout is hier overal en het is knap als je toerist Mornac-sur-Seudre verlaat zonder een potje zout.
