Midden in de moerassen tussen Rochefort en het eiland Oleron ligt het dorp Brouage. Deze vestingstad doet een beetje denken aan Willemstad of Naarden want het ligt compleet binnen de verdedigingswallen van een grote citadel. Maar dan in een moeras in de middle of nowhere. Het moet voor de verdedigers van deze stad vooral een gevecht tegen de verveling en de muggen zijn geweest want een vijandelijk leger heeft zich hier nooit gemeld. Mornac-sur-Seudre ligt tien kilometer van de Franse westkust tussen Rochefort en Royan. Toch is de zee hier nooit ver weg want het dorp ligt in een kweldergebied met een rechtstreekse verbinding met het open water waar al eeuwen zout wordt gewonnen. Nu worden hier massaal oesters gekweekt en liefhebbers van deze fruit du mer kunnen hier dan ook hun hart ophalen.

Zoals de naam al aangeeft ligt Talmont-sur-Gironde langs de Gironde maar de rivier is hier zo breed dat er weinig verschil is met de Atlantische Oceaan. Het dorp is gebouwd op een rots waardoor het makkelijk te verdedigen is zeker omdat het ook nog eens een verdedigingsmuur had. In de Middeleeuwen controleerde Talmont zo de toegang van de Gironde en dus tot Bordeaux.

Op het eiland Ile de Ré voor de kust bij La Rochelle ligt La Flotte en Ré. Het dorp heeft een gezellige jachthaven waar een klein gedeelte wordt gebruikt door vissers. De witte huizen zijn rondom de haven gebouwd en geven het dorp een unieke karakter.

Ars-en-Ré ligt op het de meest westelijke punt van de Ile de Ré, een eiland aan de Atlantische kunst op ongeveer dertig kilometer van La Rochelle. Het eiland is toegankelijk via een tolburg waarvan het tarief in de zomer niet mals is. Ondanks de vaste verbinding heeft het eiland zijn unieke karakter behouden. Het heeft zowaar twee plus beaux villages en Ars-en-Ré is daar er één van.
