Angles-sur-l’Anglin ligt op de twee oevers van de rivier de Anglin. Het dorpje ligt op de grens van, de Poitou, de Berry en de Touraine en heeft een ligt er prachtig bij. Deze strategische ligging resulteerde in de bouw van een kasteel waarvan de resten nog altijd boven het dorp duidelijk zichtbaar zijn. Het is gebouwd in de elfde eeuw door de Bisschop van Poitiers waarna hier ook een klooster wordt gesticht en een brug over de rivier gebouwd, de laatste zou in 1741 instorten.

In de loop van de middeleeuwen wisselt de burcht nog wel eens van eigenaar en wordt uiteindelijk verwoest in de veertiende eeuw tijdens de Honderdjarige oorlog met Engeland. Na de oorlog werd het echter weer opgebouwd maar tijdens de zestiende eeuw kwam het dorp tijdens de godsdienstoorlogen weer in de vuurlinie te liggen. De Hugenoten verbouwden de boel en sloopten daarbij ook het klooster.

Ondanks het geweld bloeide het dorp in de zestiende en zeventiende eeuw door zijn strategische ligging op. Dankzij de watermolen en de brug werd  Angles-sur-l’Anglin het regionale centrum van de handel. Nadat de brug in 1741 instort en niet wordt herbouwd gaat het bergafwaarts. Aan het einde van de negentiende eeuw, tijdens de Belle Epoche, komt het dorp er pas weer bovenop.

Naast het kasteel is er nog een bijzondere bezienswaardigheid te vinden in de buurt van het dorp. We hebben het over de middeleeuwen gehad maar deze plek wordt al heel lang bewoond. Op de berg zijn in de rotsen beelden gevonden van ongeveer 14.000 voor Christus. Dat is echt heel oud. De Roc-aux-Sorciers omvat twee beeldengroepen. De eerste zijn uitgehouden onder een uitstekende rots en de tweede bevinden zich in een grot.

In de rivier bij het dorp een stuw heeft om een watermolen van waterkracht te voorzien. Dat zorgt voor een prachtig plaatje en geeft je het gevoel om direct de schildersezel op te zetten maar je kan natuurlijk ook gewoon een foto nemen.
