Saint-Saturnin ligt in de Puy de Dôme even ten zuiden van Clermont-Ferrand. Het dorp speelde in de middeleeuwen een bescheiden rol in de Franse geschiedenis. De adellijke familie uit het dorp wist door een uitgekiende strategie, opportunisme en een flinke dosis geluk een nazaat zelfs op de Franse troon te krijgen.

In het zuiden van de Puy de Dôme ligt Saint-Floret. Het dorp is gebouwd langs de rivier Couze Pavin, een zijrivier van de Allier. Saint-Floret bevat een aantal mooie verrassingen waaronder een aantal prachtige fresco’s in één van de gebouwen van het kasteel dat wel de steen des tijds heeft weerstaan.

Twintig kilometer onder Clermont-Ferrand ligt Montpeyroux. Het ligt op een heuvel rondom een de ruïne van een oud kasteel en dat is natuurlijk precies wat je verwacht van een oud Frans dorp. Vanzelfsprekend is het uitzicht over de vallei over de Allier mooi.

Usson is gebouwd op een vulkanische piek dat hoog boven de vallei van Allier uitsteekt. Het dorp heeft een mooie ruïne, een aardig romaans kerkje, een niet zo mooi maar groot beeld en prachtig uitzicht over de Vallei, de Monts Dore en de Puys.
