Een beetje dorp in de Provence heeft een beroemde kunstenaar als bewoner gehad. Zo ook Seillans, waar Max Ernst met zijn vrouw Dorothea Tanning in de herfst van zijn leven zijn dagen sleet. Het dorp is door Ernst wellicht beroemd om geworden, het is ook zonder deze kunstenaar prachtig.

Seillans is een typisch Provençaals dorp met huizen die zijn gebouwd tegen een bergtop. Eenmaal binnen kan je heerlijk wandelen door de nauwe straatjes, steegjes en pleintjes waar kleine fonteinen zachtjes klateren. De olijfbomen en wijngaarden rondom het dorp maken het rustieke plaatje compleet. Hier wil je je hele leven wel blijven.

Natuurlijk heeft Seillans een kasteel, dat heeft ieder dorp in Frankrijk. Het oudste deel van het huidig gebouw dateert uit de elfde eeuw. Maar de plek wordt al veel langer gebruikt want de Kelten, bij ons bekend als Galliërs, hadden hier al een burcht gebouwd.
