Navarrenx is een vestingsplaats in het zuidwesten van Frankrijk tussen Pau en Bayonne. Het dorp is gesticht in de veertiende eeuw om de route van de pelgrimstocht naar Santiago de Compestella te beschermen. Dat het dorp van strategisch belang was blijkt wel uit het feit dat ook na de middeleeuwen de vesting is uitgebreid. Nu biedt het ons een prachtig uitzicht op de rivier de Gave met de bergen van de Pyreneeën op de achtergrond.

De porte Saint Antione is veruit het mooist overgebleven bouwwerk van de vesting. Die moet je dus zeker even gaan bekijken als je er bent.
Een wandeling over de muren is een aanrader waarbij je zowel uitzicht op het dorp als op de omgeving hebt. Voor deze wandeling kan je het best starten op de place des Casernes waarna je een heel rondje over de muren kan lopen. De kerk in het dorp is uit de zestiende eeuw en die moet natuurlijk even bekeken worden.
