Charroux ligt in de Allier tussen Vichy, Montlucon en Clemont-Ferrand. Het dorp ligt aan de voet van het Central Massief en niet zover van de snelweg. Als je de oude weg naar het zuiden neemt via Moulins is het de moeite waard om hier een tussenstop te plannen voor een goede lunch of een overnachting.
