Wie geregeld door het Franse platteland trekt is het ongetwijfeld opgevallen dat de begraafplaatsen hier flink zijn. Ze liggen vaak aan de rand van de bebouwing en zijn niet zelden ommuurd en vormen zo een dodendorp, soms groter dan het dorp zelf. Als je over zo’n begraafplaats loopt vraag je je al snel af hoe een Franse begrafenis in zijn werk gaat. Gastblogger Kees Wijnen maakte het mee op oudejaarsdag en deelt zijn ervaringen. En die zijn toch net even anders dan in Nederland.

De Fransman is iemand van tradities, vastgeroeste gewoontes, gebruiken, rituelen die ze niet snel of misschien nooit zullen veranderen. Eén van die vaste tradities is het Franse dorpsfeest. Ieder dorp, maar dan ook ieder dorp heeft één keer per jaar zijn dorpsfeest, meestal gehouden in juli en augustus. Je kunt het een beetje vergelijken met kermis taferelen in Nederland. Het feest begint meestal vrijdag ‘s avonds en eindigt zondag in de kleine uurtjes.
