De Auvergne ligt in het grote lege midden van Frankrijk. Leeg is er het natuurlijk niet maar het is waar dat hier weinig mensen wonen. Dit alles heeft te maken met het landschap dat met de oude bergen van het Massief Centraal. Waar wij nu prachtige natuurschoon zien was dit eeuwenlang een moeilijk te bereiken gebied waar de inwoners de dingen op hun eigen manier deden en zo hun eigen wetten hadden.

Als je Tournemire nadert valt het oog onherroepelijk op het kasteel aan de zijkant van het dorp. Het Château d’Anjony lijkt nog het meest op een toren van een duur schaakspel en steekt hoog boven het dorp uit dat in een wijde vallei ligt, die ooit door een gletsjer is gevormd. In het mooie dorpje in de Auvergne hangt een prettige, mystieke sfeer en dat is goed voor twee sterren.

Salers staat bekend om de gelijknamige kaas en zijn koeien. Maar het dorp staat ook vermeld in het bekende boekje ‘Les Plus Beaux Villages de France’ en behoort dus tot de mooiste dorpen van Frankrijk. Volgens de Fransen is Salers de absolute top want het verloor in 2012 de finale van de verkiezingen op televisie van het mooiste dorp van Frankrijk van Saint Criq-Lapopie. Wij vonden het dorp ook bijzonder mooi. Goed voor vier sterren.
