Île de Sein is op het eerste gezicht één van de meest aansprekende Plus Beaux Villages de France. Het dorp ligt namelijk op een eiland van nog geen twee kilometer lang op ongeveer acht kilometer van de kust van Bretagne. Een kleine pont brengt je over ‘Raz de Sein’ zoals de zeestraat heet, naar dit kleine paradijs.

Het eiland heeft maar één dorp en een schitterende kust met woeste rotspartijen en dat is voldoende voor een bezoek. In het dorp zelf staan de huizen dicht op elkaar, waardoor de steegjes soms minder dan een meter breed zijn.

Het eiland nodigt uit voor een wandeling en omdat het zo klein is kan je er makkelijk omheen lopen. Achter het dorp ligt een grote vlakte dat bij hoog water onder loopt. Helemaal aan de andere kant staat een klein kapelletje waar de zeelieden  om goede wind baden. Dat is een prachtig doel voor een goede wandeling. Neem dan wel lekker wat eten mee voor een goed picknick in de natuur. Iets verder doorlopen en je staat aan de voet van de grootste vuurtoren van het eiland. Bij terugkomst in het dorp kan je heerlijk kreeft eten.

Helaas is Île de Sein sinds een tijdje geen Plus Beaux Village meer. Hoewel ik er (nog) niet ben geweest, is dit mij een raadsel. Omdat hij nog wel in mijn boekje staat en het er heel erg aantrekkelijk uitziet, telt het eiland voor mij gewoon mee.
