Bargème ligt op 1.097 meter boven de zeespiegel en is daarmee het hoogst geleden dorp van het departement Var. Het uitzicht op de omgeving is adembenemend. De torens van het middeleeuwse kasteel domineren het aanzicht van het dorp. Het gebouw werd verwoest tijdens de godsdienstoorlogen in de zestiende eeuw.

Bargème is helemaal afgesloten voor verkeer en dat is natuurlijk goed nieuws voor een fijne wandeling. Neem zeker even een kijkje in het kerkje. Deze is gebouwd voor Sint Nicolaas, een heilige die zelfs bekend is bij Nederlanders.

Het Romaanse kerkje is gebouwd in de dertiende eeuw en binnen is een bijzonder aardig altaarstuk te zien. Het houtsnijwerkje stelt Sint Sebastiaan voor, wat wel weer raar is in een kerk voor Sinterklaas. Kennelijk concurreren deze heiligen niet met elkaar.
