Wij bezochten dit mooie dorp aan de Dordogne in de nogal natte zomer van 2011. En ja, ook tijdens ons bezoek regende het behoorlijk. Vandaar ook de sombere foto’s. Toch hebben we van dit Franse dorp, dat vlakbij Sarlat ligt, genoten.

Het parkeerterrein ligt even buiten het dorp en het formaat en de kwaliteit vertelt ons dat we te maken hebben met een populair dorp. Dat is gedeeltelijk terecht, want het is een prachtig dorp.

La Roque-Gageac ligt aan de oever van de Dordorgne en is gebouwd tegen een stijle rots. Jammer is wel dat tussen de rivier en het dorp een drukke weg loopt, waardoor het nogal onrustig is. De verticale verschillen in het dorp maakt het minder geschikt voor toeristen met een slechte conditie. Je ontkomt niet aan een stevige klim bij een bezoek.

Eenmaal boven, kan je genieten van een prachtig uitzicht over de rivier en de rustige straatjes met de nodige toeristenwinkeltjes. Door de regen was het tijdens ons bezoek niet druk, maar de hele inrichting van het dorp wijst erop dat hier veel toeristen komen. Dit heeft natuurlijk ook te maken met de ligging van het dorp midden in de Dordogne. Hier zijn gewoon veel toeristen.

Lekker wandelen kan je door de exotische tuin. Bij het bezoeken van de kerk was er een mevrouw aan het oefenen voor een avondconcert op een zingende zaag. Toch een vreemde gewaarwording.

Een paar dagen later kwamen we met een kano nog voorbij La Roque-Gageac. Een kanotocht over de Dordogne is druk, heel druk. Je vaart in een soort van langgerekt flottielje. De bestuurders van de kano’s zijn van een twijfelachtige soort, waardoor je er soms lol en soms last van hebt. Halverwege volgt er met het nageslacht de discussie of we de foto moeten kopen die ze van je maken. In dit geval zijn we niet gezwicht voor de emotionele druk, ondanks een tactisch ingezette huilbui van mijn dochter. En sportief gezien is over de Dordogne varen al helemaal geen uitdaging, daar kan je je dus ook niet op focussen.

Ondanks al deze ‘ellende’ hebben we toch genoten van het uitzicht vanaf het water.
