Het kasteel van Chantilly is enorm en omvat naast twee musea een prachtige tuin. De ruimte doet al snel denken aan Versailles al is dat natuurlijk allemaal groter en ook wel mooier. Evengoed is ook dit kasteel een bezoek waard. Alleen de tuinen al zijn het waard om deze prachtige plek te bezoeken. En ja hier is volgens de legende de slagroom uitgevonden, maar zoals veel legendes is dat niet helemaal waar. Maar het is een legende en dat is altijd goed bij een groot kasteel.

Het kasteel van Cormatin in het zuiden van Bourgondië ligt op een eiland in het riviertje Grosne op een klein half uur rijden van Cluny. Het kasteel is gebouwd als woning en heeft nooit dienst gedaan als verdedigingswerk. Binnen zijn een aantal kamers te vinden uit de achttiende eeuw die uniek zijn voor de geschiedenis van Frankrijk. Versailles staat bekend om zijn kasteel en hordes toeristen komen vooral de binnenkant daarvan te bekijken. Dat is ook top maar de buitenkant en de tuinen zijn minstens zo mooi. De tuin, of beter park, van het paleis van Versailles is indrukwekkend groot en heeft verschillende landschappen en karakters. Daarbij staat het vol met de mooiste beelden en fonteinen. Bijkomend voordeel is dat je niet hoeft te betalen én in de rij te staan.

Wij bezochten dit mooie dorp aan de Dordogne in de nogal natte zomer van 2011. En ja, ook tijdens ons bezoek regende het behoorlijk. Vandaar ook de sombere foto’s. Toch hebben we van dit Franse dorp, dat vlakbij Sarlat ligt, genoten.
