De Mont Ventoux is misschien wel de bekendste berg van Frankrijk, alleen de Mont Blanc kan met hem wedijveren. De reus van de Provence is met name bekend om met een fiets te beklimmen maar ook met de auto is de tocht naar de top een unieke ervaring.

In juli is Frankrijk het decor voor het grootste sportevenement van de wereld, de Tour de France. Deze unieke wielerwedstrijd behoort tot de essentiële onderdelen van de Franse cultuur en identiteit. Op een dik uur rijden van Tarbes ligt de Pic du Midi du Bigorre. Met een hoogte van 2.877 meter is het niet de hoogste berg van de Pyreneeën, maar zeker één van de interessantste om te bezoeken. Op de top hebben de Fransen namelijk een enorme sterrenwacht gebouwd die nog altijd een belangrijke rol speelt bij het onderzoek van het heelal. De trotse Fransen hebben het zelfs voor elkaar gekregen dat het uitzicht op de sterren vanaf de Pic du Midi op de werelderfgoedlijst staat.
