Polignac ligt even ten noorden van le Puy-en-Valey in het zuiden van Frankrijk. Het dorp is gebouwd rondom een vulkanische berg waarop de voornaamste attractie zich bevindt; een kasteel. Althans de overblijfselen daarvan en die zijn er precies genoeg om voor ons eentwintigste-eeuwers de fantasie op hol te laten brengen. Het prachtige uitzicht op Le Puy helpt daar ook flink bij.

In de vallei in het noorden van de Auvergne waar drie rivieren bij elkaar komen is Blesle gebouwd en dat is natuurlijk goede plek dat in het verleden voorspoed opleverde en nu goed is voor mooie plaatjes. Het dorp kende zijn bloeitijd vanaf de twaalfde eeuw en er staan nog redelijk veel huizen en gebouwen uit die tijd. Dat maakt het een aangename plek om een middag of een ochtend te verblijven. In dit dorp vind je tal van mooie plekje waar je de rijke geschiedenis bijna kan voelen.

Het landschap nodigt uit voor een mooie wandeling en omdat Blesle op pelgrimsroute naar Santiago de Compostela ligt kan je een stukje meelopen.

In Frankrijk zijn dorpen waar je bij het aanrijden direct verliefd op bent. Je kan veel over Pradelles in de Auvergne zeggen, maar dit is niet zo’n dorp. Het ligt niet echt heel geweldig, het centrum met het pleintje is best leuk maar niet bijzonder en ik heb geen kerken of andere gebouwen kunnen vinden die meer zijn dan aardig.

In Frankrijk heb je prachtige dorpjes en je hebt hele kleine prachtige dorpjes. Arlempdes behoort tot die laatste categorie. Dit dorp in de Auvergne ligt hoog boven de Loire in een gebied waar je je best moet doen om een buitenlandse toerist tegen te komen. Ondanks dat het dorp zo klein is heeft het toch een kasteel, of althans de resten daarvan, en die beheerst het aanzien van het dorp.

Lavaudieu ligt even ten zuiden van Clermond-Ferrand en is goed bereikbaar vanaf de snelweg A75 naar Milau. Het dorp kent een lange geschiedenis en is ontstaan in de elfde eeuw toen er hier een klooster werd gesticht. De achthoekige toren van de kerk van deze abdij domineert het silhouet van het plaatsje.
