Honfleur is een mooi stadje aan monding van de Seine en ligt tegenover Le Havre dat aan het andere kant van het water ligt. Het stadje, of dorp, is beroemd om zijn prachtige oude haven en gezellige straatjes en pleintjes. Het is een populaire bestemming, misschien een beetje te populair.

Abdijen genoeg in Frankrijk maar die van Jumièges in Normandië is toch een beetje anders dan de rest en dat heeft vooral te maken met de staat waarin het zich bevindt; het is een ruïne en een mooie ook.

Giverny is een bescheiden dorpje vlakbij de Seine op een dik uur rijden van Parijs met een kerkje een leuk straatje kortom een dorp zoals honderden in Frankrijk. Toch is Giverny wereldberoemd en dat heeft alles te maken dat hier de beroemdste schilder van Frankrijk voor een groot deel van zijn woonde; Claude Monet.

In Étretat staan de beroemdste bogen van Frankrijk, geheel gemaakt van kalk en vormgegeven door de natuur. In dit charmante maar druk bezochte badplaatsje werd het toerisme in Frankrijk feitelijk uitgevonden. Hier komen al meer dan tweehonderd jaar mensen die de drukte van Parijs willen ontlopen en genieten van het magische spel van schaduw en licht van de lucht, zee en rotsen. Deze plek was de speeltuin de hoge adel van Europa, de nieuwe rijken en werd vereeuwigd door de beste schilders die Frankrijk voortbracht.

Tussen het D-Day geweld op het schiereiland Cotentin is het makkelijk om de andere mooie en interessante plekken over het hoofd te zien. Het vissersdorp Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue met zijn mooie baai en oude forten is daar een goed voorbeeld van. Het ligt op half uur rijden van Utah-Beach en werd in 2019 door de Fransen zelf gekozen tot mooiste dorp van het jaar.

In september 2017 ging de vlag uit op het gemeentehuis in Veules Les Roses want vanaf dat moment mocht het dorp aan de kanaalkust zich officieel ‘Plus Beaux Village de France’ noemen. En wat wil je nu meer als Frans dorp. Het dorp herbergt de kleinste rivier van Frankrijk en heeft een prachtige kust met hoge kliffen met een voor Franse begrippen een aardig strand.

Sainte-Suzanne ligt in Normandië ten westen van Le Mans op een rots zeventig meter boven de vallei van de rivier de Erve. Het dorp heeft prachtige versterkte muren met een opmerkelijke geschiedenis. Dit is namelijk de enige vesting in Normandië waar Willem de Veroveraar nooit in handen heeft gekregen. Toen was Sainte-Suzanne een stad in Normandië, nu is het een mooi dorp in de Pays de Loire met een prachtig centrum en een mooi uitzicht op de omgeving dat vraagt om verkend te worden, het liefst te voet of op de fiets.

Het dorp Beuvron-en-Auge ligt vlakbij Caen en heeft één van de mooiste dorpspleinen in Normandië. Er staan meer dan veertig vakwerkhuizen en op het plein staat een prachtig houten markthal. Helaas is deze laatste niet heel oud, hij stamt uit de jaren zeventig van de vorige eeuw. Dat maakt voor het plaatje echter niet veel uit, het blijft een uiterst fraai plein.
