De Abbaye de Sénanque is zo’n plek in Frankrijk waar ik altijd heen wil als ik in de buurt ben. Ik ben er al meerdere keren geweest, ik weet niet eens hoe vaak, maar ik raak er nooit uitgekeken. De eerste keer dat ik mij deze plek herinner is met mijn ouders met onze nieuwe Renault 14, een bizarre auto. Toen wij later als gezin neerstreken in de Vaucluse voor een vakantie wist ik één ding zeker; ik wil naar dat mooie klooster met de lavendelvelden.

In de avondschaduw van de Mont Ventoux en een beetje verscholen in de luwte van de grote toeristenstroom ligt Montbrun les Bains. De toevoeging ‘les Bains’ geeft aan dat het hier om een badplaats gaat, in dit geval een kuuroord met geneeskrachtige bronnen. Dat is natuurlijk fijn, maar daarvoor gaan wij niet naar een dorp, wel om zijn schilderachtige huizen en straten want in Montbrun les Bains lijkt het alsof je in een ansichtkaart loopt.

Lauzerte is vrij groot voor een dorpje. Als je door de straten en over de pleinen loopt, voelt deze plaats ook niet als een dorp. Dat wil niet zeggen dat Lauzerte geen bezoek waard is, maar als ‘Plus Beaux Village de France’ voelt het toch redelijk groot.

Gordes is een dorp met een natuurlijke schoonheid waar je niet omheen kunt. Ook de toeristenindustrie weet dit maar al te goed en het plaatsje in de Vaucluse is ‘s zomers ook compleet gevuld met buitenlanders. Toch is de schoonheid van dit dorp zo groot dat het van ons vijf sterren krijgt. Er heen dus maar dan wel het liefst in het voor- of naseizoen. Kan je echt alleen in de zomer, dan is het dorp in juli nog net te doen, ga in augustus alleen in de avond.
