De alpen kennen we vooral van bergen, wandelingen en natuurlijk wintersport. Maar voor dit alles werd uitgevonden was er al kaas, en vooral lekkere kaas. Hoog in de Alpen groeit tussen de bergtoppen rijk en kruidig gras op de weiden. Dat wordt in zomer door de koeien omgezet in heerlijke romige melk die uiteindelijk wordt verwerkt tot kaas, hele goede kaas. Lees verder Kazen uit de Alpen →

Het dorpje Die ligt in het departement de Drôme en is een mooi dorp in een geweldige omgeving. Hoewel de Drôme misschien niet de meest populaire vakantieregio is van Frankrijk heb ik veel Frankrijkliefhebbers horen zeggen dat ze graag nog een keer op vakantie zouden willen naar Die. Zelf heb ik het geluk dat mijn Franse schoonfamilie er een vakantiehuis heeft waardoor ik er meerdere keren per jaar te vinden ben.

De Ardèche is bijzonder populair als vakantiebestemming en dat is ook goed te begrijpen. De streek heeft prachtige dorpen, mooie landschappen, het weer is ‘s zomers er bijna altijd goed en er is genoeg te doen. Het kan er ook best druk zijn. Wie de drukte en de warmte even wil ontvluchten is het bezoeken van een grot zeker een leuk uitje. Aven d’Orgnac is de grootste grot die je kan bezoeken in de Ardèche.

Zoals de naam van het dorp al doet vermoeden is de geschiedenis van Saint-Antoine-l’Abbaye nauw verbonden met het klooster. De abdij was de trotse bezitter van de relieken van de heilige Antonius en ligt op de pelgrimsroute naar Santiago de Compostella. Het dorp in de Isère groeide rondom de religieuze gebouwen die nog altijd het aanzien van Saint-Antoine-l’Abbaye domineren.

Ooit was Oingt een machtige vesting dat het westen van Lyon beheerste is daarvan slechts de Porte de Nizy, de kapel en een toren van over. Dit dorp in de Beaujolais is voor een groot deel autovrij en daarom is het goed wandelen hier. Voor echte wandelliefhebbers natuurlijk niet want daarvoor is het dorp veel te klein.

Een klassiek Frans dorp heeft een grote kerk, een rivier en als het even kan een mooi kasteel. Bonneval sur Arc lijkt op niets van dit alles. Het dorp in de Haut-Maurianne in de Franse Alpen en ligt in een diepe vallei dat wordt omgeven door bergen waarvan de meeste toppen hoger zijn dan drieduizend meter.

Pérouges is een waar mekka voor liefhebbers van de Middeleeuwen. Hier loop je op de set van een dure film over de Middeleeuwen en dat is letterlijk zo want meer dan eens is hier een film opgenomen. De kronkelige straatjes, de prachtige huizen en de gezellige pleintjes nodigen uit tot wandelen en slenteren. Het middeleeuwse plaatje is geheel compleet, behalve dan de stank en armoede uit die tijd. En dat is des te beter.

Sainte-Croix-en-Jarez ligt tussen Vienne en Saint Étienne. Het dorp is gebouwd rondom een klooster dat in de dertiende eeuw is gesticht. De kerk van het klooster heeft interessante fresco’s.

Le Poët-Laval ligt midden in de streek De Drôme tussen de graan- en lavendelvelden. Het dorp in het zuiden van Frankrijk heeft een lange geschiedenis met Hospitaalridders en protestanten. Maar in Nederland is Le Poët-Laval bekend omdat Gerard Reve hier in de jaren zeventig woonde, maar dat zal je in geen enkele Franse gids tegenkomen.
