Tussen Carcassonne en Limoux ligt het prachtige dorp Saint Hilaire. Het is gebouwd rondom een abdij die nog altijd fier midden in het dorp staat. Hierom heen kronkelen nauwe straatjes waar je opvallend weinig toeristen tegenkomt. Een fijne plek waar je je zeker een paar uur vermaakt.

Vlakbij de Middellandse Zee tussen Montpellier en de Camargue ligt de prachtige vestingstad Aigues-Mortes. De stad is in de middeleeuwen gebouwd is verbazingwekkend goed bewaard gebleven en trekt nu veel toeristen. Deze worden getrokken door de prachtige muren en de historische gebouwen en de gezellige sfeer op en rondom de pleinen.

In het departement Aude in de Languedoc ligt boven op een heuvel het dorpje Rennes-le-Château. Deze plek was al bewoond in de tijd van de Visigothen en was toen zelfs een belangrijke plaats maar dat is nu moeilijk voor te stellen, het dorpje heeft amper 100 inwoners. Toch is deze plek in heel Frankrijk en zelfs daarbuiten bekend maar dat heeft te maken met de priester die hier aan het einde van de negentiende eeuw op een mysterieuze wijze plots over een enorm vermogen beschikte.

Abîme de Bramabiau is een grot in de streek de Cevennen in het zuiden van Frankrijk. Het is uitgesleten door water dat uiteindelijk door middel van een waterval zijn weg naar buiten vindt. De rivier is in de hele grot aanwezig en omdat er bijna geen water door het plafond sijpelt, zijn hier bijna geen stalagmieten en tieten. Hierdoor ziet de grot er heel anders uit dan je gewend bent.

De Grotte des Demoiselles liggen net ten zuiden van de Cevennen vlakbij het stadje Ganges. De grot is toegankelijk door middel van een soort treintje. Het omvat een enorme ruimte, cathédrale des abysses genaamd, waar een aantal prachtige bouwsels staan die ook nog eens bezaait zijn met glitters. Eén daarvan lijkt op een moeder met kind en dan is de link naar Maria natuurlijk snel gelegd. Et voila; de verklaring van de naam van deze ondergrondse ruimte.

De Mont Aigoual is met 1567 meter niet de hoogste top van de Cevennen maar heeft zonder twijfel wel het mooiste uitzicht. Vanaf de top heb je niet alleen zicht op de Cevennen maar kun je bij helder weer de toppen van de Pyreneeën, die van de Alpen en de Cantal zien. Kijk je naar het zuiden dan zie je het prachtige blauw van de Middellandse zee en de vlakte van de Languedoc. Er wordt dan ook wel gezegd dat je vanaf Mont Aigoual een kwart van Frankrijk kan overzien. In het diepe zuiden van Frankrijk op een uurtje rijden van Perpignan ligt een bizar maanlandschap dat Orgues de l’Ille sur Tet heet. Door een unieke geologische opbouw, corrosie en ingrijpen van de mens zijn er hoge kliffen gevormd die doen denken aan orgelpijpen. Het is niet heel erg groot maar het is wel een unieke ervaring om vlak langs de kolommen te lopen. Voor kinderen is het een leuke attractie.

Monclus ligt prachtig op de oevers van de Cèze. Het aanzicht van het dorp wordt gedomineerd door de grote vierkante donjon die ooit onderdeel was van het kasteel waarvan de rest grotendeels is verdwenen.
