Boulogne-sur-Mer is een heerlijk stadje dat schreeuwt om ontdekt te worden door toeristen. Er is voldoende te doen voor een dagje of zelfs een weekend en vormt bovendien een uitstekende uitvalsbasis voor expedities naar de rest van de opaalkust.

Zoals de naam van het dorp al doet vermoeden is de geschiedenis van Saint-Antoine-l’Abbaye nauw verbonden met het klooster. De abdij was de trotse bezitter van de relieken van de heilige Antonius en ligt op de pelgrimsroute naar Santiago de Compostella. Het dorp in de Isère groeide rondom de religieuze gebouwen die nog altijd het aanzien van Saint-Antoine-l’Abbaye domineren.

Estaing ligt waar de rivier Coussane uitmondt in de Lot. De grote rivier slingert zich om het dorp heen waardoor het aan drie kanten water heeft. Dat is strategisch een goede positie want je hoeft alleen de kant waar geen water is te verdedigen en daar staat dan ook een flink kasteel. Het dorp heeft naast het kasteel vanzelfsprekend een kerk en een gezellig centrum met mooi uitzicht over de Lot en de oude brug.

Rocamadour is de oudste toeristische attractie in de omgeving van de Dordogne. Als je de pelgrimstochten tenminste ziet als tourisme avant la lettre is het stadje al eeuwen een trekpleister voor reizigers en toeristen. Dankzij een unieke combinatie van geschiedenis, gezelligheid, kunst en een prachtig landschap werkt het stadje als een magneet op reizigers. Iedereen die in de buurt is mag het stadje gebouwd op een rots boven de rivier Alzou absoluut niet missen.

Conques is gebouwd op een stijle helling van een vallei van de rivier Le Dourdou,  een zijrivier van de Lot. Als etappeplaats van de pelgrimsroute naar Santiago de Compostella was het dorp in het tweede deel van de middeleeuwen belangrijk. Door zijn ligging, de prachtige kerk, de vakwerkhuizen en prettige sfeer krijgt Conques van ons vijf sterren.

Vézelay is mogelijk de bekendste ‘Plus Beaux de Village de France’. Het plaatsje staat bol van geschiedenis, religie en cultuur en wordt in de zomer druk bezocht door toeristen. De bekende Michelingids geeft Vézelay het predicaat ‘De reis waard’ en dat is volkomen terecht! Wij geven dit prachtige dorp dan ook vijf sterren. Zo snel mogelijk gaan dus!
