De Seine kennen we natuurlijk als de rivier die door Parijs stroomt. De Seine is de kleinste van de grote rivieren in Frankrijk en mondt bij Le Havre in Normandië uit in het Kanaal. Zo’n rivier begint natuurlijk ook ergens en dat is in de Morvan en daar hebben de Fransen best iets leuks van gemaakt.

Porquerolles is de grootste van de Îles d’Hyères, een eilandengroep heeft als bijnaam de Îles d’Or, ofwel de gouden eilanden gelegen even ten zuiden van Hyères in de Middellandse Zee. Dat is klinkt nogal pretentieus maar we hebben het hier wel over de Côte d’Azur waar alles een beetje overdreven is én laten we eerlijk zijn, ook vaak heel mooi. Porquerolles is dat zeker ook. Le Castellet ligt helemaal in het zuiden van Frankrijk even ten oosten van Toulon. Het dorp is vooral bekend om zijn autorace circuit maar heeft ook een zeer gezellig centrum met bochtige straatjes met kleurrijke winkels. De sfeer is uitstekend en op verschillende plekken heb je een fantastische uitzicht de kuststreek.

Cotignac ligt in op ongeveer een dik uur rijden van de kust en de Lac de Saint Croix. Het dorp, of misschien wel een stadje, heeft mooie pleintjes. Bijzonder is de buurtje dat tegen een tachtig meter hoge wand is gebouwd.

Het MuséoParc Alésia in Bourgondië is een prachtig museum waar het verhaal van de slag die hier in de eerste eeuw voor Christus werd uitgevochten. Hier vochten de Romeinen onder leiding van Julius Caesar en een Gallisch leger van
Vercingetorix om de hegemonie van Gallië. De slag was een militair huzaren stukje van de Romeinen die ondanks een numerieke minderheid wisten te winnen. Dit was het einde van de veroveringstocht van Caesar waardoor hij de rijkste man binnen het Romeinse rijk werd. Dit verhaal wordt op een zeer goede en boeiende manier verteld waar iedereen met een interesse in geschiedenis zijn hart kan ophalen. Ook voor kinderen is er genoeg te beleven!

Karolingische gebouwen zijn er niet zo veel in Frankrijk maar in Germigny-des-Prés bij de Loire staat een zeer bijzondere kerkje dat ooit onderdeel vormde van de villa van één van de topadviseurs van Karel de Grote zelf. Dichterbij de grote keizer kan je bijna niet komen, in Frankrijk althans.

Het kasteel van Chantilly is enorm en omvat naast twee musea een prachtige tuin. De ruimte doet al snel denken aan Versailles al is dat natuurlijk allemaal groter en ook wel mooier. Evengoed is ook dit kasteel een bezoek waard. Alleen de tuinen al zijn het waard om deze prachtige plek te bezoeken. En ja hier is volgens de legende de slagroom uitgevonden, maar zoals veel legendes is dat niet helemaal waar. Maar het is een legende en dat is altijd goed bij een groot kasteel.

De Roche de Solutré steekt met zijn bijna vijfhonderd meter hoog uit boven de Mâconnais. Het is de trots van dit gebied dat in de oertijd al druk bezocht werd.
