Yèvre-le-Châtel ligt ongeveer tachtig kilometer onder Parijs en ondanks de nabijheid van deze metropool, straalt het dorp alles uit wat het platteland van Frankrijk zo aantrekkelijk maakt. Er heerst rust zonder dat je het idee hebt dat je in een uithoek van de wereld zit. Wij hadden het geluk om hier een week een gîte te kunnen huren, midden in het dorp met een tuin op het terras van een dertiende eeuwse burcht. Goed voor drie sterren.

Collonges la Rouge is een belangrijk dorp voor Les plus Beaux Villages de France. Het was de burgemeester van dit dorp die aan de hand van een boekje besloot een stichting op te richten om de mooiste dorpen van Frankrijk te kiezen. Belangrijk inderdaad, maar we hebben dit niet mee laten wegen bij de beoordeling van dit mooie dorp. Het dorp bij de Dordogne krijgt drie sterren.

Het dorp Domme ligt mooi langs de rivier de Dordogne in het zuidwesten van Frankrijk. Het meest opvallende is de grot die letterlijk onder het dorp ligt. De ingang van de grot ligt midden op de marktplein. Maar ook de kerk, het kasteel en de prachtige omgeving met veel meer mooie dorpen in de buurt zijn een bezoek waard. De streek staat tevens bekend om de uitstekend keuken, dus ook de innerlijke mens hoeft zich hier niet te vervelen.

Lauzerte is vrij groot voor een dorpje. Als je door de straten en over de pleinen loopt, voelt deze plaats ook niet als een dorp. Dat wil niet zeggen dat Lauzerte geen bezoek waard is, maar als ‘Plus Beaux Village de France’ voelt het toch redelijk groot.

Lautrec is bekend om zijn roze knoflook en zijn pastelkleuren maar bovenal om de naam van de kunstenaar Toulouse-Lautrec. Het fraaie dorp ligt tussen Castres en Albi in het prachtige landschap dat ook bekend staat als de bakoven van Frankrijk. Het is er in de zomer dus warm. De intieme rustige straatjes en pleintjes zijn genoeg mogelijkheden om schaduw te vinden en een koel glas tot je te nemen. Het dorp is goed voor drie sterren.

Auvillar ligt tussen Montauban en Agen op de oude pelgrimsroute naar Santiago de  Compostela niet ver van de rivier de Garonne. Het dorp heeft een interessant plein met een prachtig ronde markthal en een kerk waarvan de toren niet helemaal meer rechtop staan. Het dorp is bekend om zijn faïence, fijn aardewerk.
