Saint Benoît du Sault is een prachtig dorp dat de schoonheid van een ‘Plus Beaux Village’ combineert met de charme van de Franse slag. Het dorp in de Indre valt echt niet uit elkaar, maar hier en daar zie je wel dat de tijd zijn invloed heeft op de bebouwing. Helaas bezochten we het dorp op doorreis en moesten we na een half uur weer verder. Daarom slechts twee sterren, voorlopig althans.

Pujols ligt prachtig op een berg boven de Lot, met een prachtig uitzicht op de stad Villeneuve-sur-Lot dat drie kilometer verder ligt. De ingang van het dorp is een poort en verraadt de militaire functie die het mooie Franse dorp in het verleden heeft gehad. Goed voor drie sterren.

Fourcès bezochten wij op een zeer warme dag. Die heb je nog weleens in het zuidwesten van Frankrijk en ik ben er dol op. Het dorp bevindt zich in het mooie, maar niet echt spectaculaire, Armagnac. Deze vruchtbare streek ligt ten zuiden van Bordeaux en wordt al heel lang bewoond. Door de rijke geschiedenis is de Armagnac bezaaid met kastelen en mooie dorpen, niet zelden nog geheel ommuurd. Fourcès is ongetwijfeld één van de mooiste en wij geven het dorp drie sterren.

Larressingle doet denken aan Carcassonne, maar dan in het klein. Bovendien is het nog helemaal origineel en dat kan je van Carcassonne niet helemaal zeggen. De muren van deze kleine vesting zijn nog volledig intact en dat geeft het dorpje in de Gers een unieke middeleeuwse sfeer. Dat is genoeg voor vijf sterren. Een bijzonder mooi Frans dorp dus dat een bezoek meer dan waard is.

Het dorp Autoire ligt in het westen in Frankrijk in de buurt van de rivieren de Lot en de Dordogne. Het heeft alles wat je van een Frans dorp mag verwachten; mooie huizen, een kerkje, een restaurantje en een monument voor de gesneuvelde soldaten uit de Eerste Wereldoorlog. Maar Autoire heeft nog iets meer want het ligt prachtig tussen de rotsen en heeft als bonus een prachtige waterval. Het is even lopen vanuit het dorp, maar het is de moeite waard! Yèvre-le-Châtel ligt ongeveer tachtig kilometer onder Parijs en ondanks de nabijheid van deze metropool, straalt het dorp alles uit wat het platteland van Frankrijk zo aantrekkelijk maakt. Er heerst rust zonder dat je het idee hebt dat je in een uithoek van de wereld zit. Wij hadden het geluk om hier een week een gîte te kunnen huren, midden in het dorp met een tuin op het terras van een dertiende eeuwse burcht. Goed voor drie sterren.

In La Couvertoirade waan je jezelf in de middeleeuwen. Het geheel ommuurde dorp is totaal autovrij en heeft zeer sfeervolle nauwe straatjes en prachtige monumenten. Wat mij het meest is bijgebleven, is het kleine kerkje met kerkhof met Tempeliersgraven.

Collonges la Rouge is een belangrijk dorp voor Les plus Beaux Villages de France. Het was de burgemeester van dit dorp die aan de hand van een boekje besloot een stichting op te richten om de mooiste dorpen van Frankrijk te kiezen. Belangrijk inderdaad, maar we hebben dit niet mee laten wegen bij de beoordeling van dit mooie dorp. Het dorp bij de Dordogne krijgt drie sterren.

Het dorp Domme ligt mooi langs de rivier de Dordogne in het zuidwesten van Frankrijk. Het meest opvallende is de grot die letterlijk onder het dorp ligt. De ingang van de grot ligt midden op de marktplein. Maar ook de kerk, het kasteel en de prachtige omgeving met veel meer mooie dorpen in de buurt zijn een bezoek waard. De streek staat tevens bekend om de uitstekend keuken, dus ook de innerlijke mens hoeft zich hier niet te vervelen.

Lauzerte is vrij groot voor een dorpje. Als je door de straten en over de pleinen loopt, voelt deze plaats ook niet als een dorp. Dat wil niet zeggen dat Lauzerte geen bezoek waard is, maar als ‘Plus Beaux Village de France’ voelt het toch redelijk groot.
