Montréal ligt in de Gers en vormt samen met Larressingle en Fourcès een driehoek van prachtige dorpen. Het dorp in zuidwest Frankrijk heeft een prachtig kleine dorpskern waar het heerlijk wandelen is. Maar in het landschap van de Armagnac liggen rondom het dorp een aantal interessante zaken verborgen; een Romeinse villa, een vervallen kerk en één van de belangrijkste vindplaatsen van fossielen in Frankrijk.

In Frankrijk zijn dorpen waar je bij het aanrijden direct verliefd op bent. Je kan veel over Pradelles in de Auvergne zeggen, maar dit is niet zo’n dorp. Het ligt niet echt heel geweldig, het centrum met het pleintje is best leuk maar niet bijzonder en ik heb geen kerken of andere gebouwen kunnen vinden die meer zijn dan aardig.

Cardaillac ligt in het departement De Lot op tien kilometer van Figeac, de thuisbasis van de machtige feodale familie met dezelfde naam als het dorp. Van het kasteel dat in de twaalfde eeuw is gebouwd staan nog drie torens waarvan twee vierkante en één ronde. Het kasteel was gebouwd in een driehoek en stond op een grote rots boven het dorp.

Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval ligt op de plek waar twee takken van de rivier de Giffre samenkomen. Het dorp is ontstaan nadat er hier in de twaalfde eeuw een klooster werd gesticht. Het klooster staat er nog en de eetzaal uit de zeventiende eeuw is nog te bezichtigen terwijl een deel van het kerkje uit de dertiende eeuw er ook nog staat. Maar de grootste attractie van Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval is de waanzinnige natuur.

Het dorp Beuvron-en-Auge ligt vlakbij Caen en heeft één van de mooiste dorpspleinen in Normandië. Er staan meer dan veertig vakwerkhuizen en op het plein staat een prachtig houten markthal. Helaas is deze laatste niet heel oud, hij stamt uit de jaren zeventig van de vorige eeuw. Dat maakt voor het plaatje echter niet veel uit, het blijft een uiterst fraai plein.

Nu is Barfleur een klein dorpje, maar de in verhouding grote haven verraadt dat het dorp in het verleden belangrijk was. In de Middeleeuwen was Barfleur één van de belangrijkste havens aan het kanaal en kende het een bloeiperiode. Zo werd bijvoorbeeld het schip waarmee 1066 Willem de Veroveraar naar Engeland voer om daar de boel te veroveren werd hier gebouwd. Later werd er nog een zeeslag uitgevochten tussen Frankrijk tegen een Engelse en Nederlandse coalitie, die werd gewonnen door de Fransen.

Het dorp Mosset is gebouwd op een berg in het woeste landschap van de Pyreneeën ten westen van Perpignan. Het dorp is echt een plaatje en lijkt te zijn gemaakt voor een ansichtkaart. Desondanks is Mosset nog niet ontdekt door het massatoerisme waardoor je in de steile straatjes de sfeer van het dorp nog kan ontdekken.

Parfondeval ligt in het oosten van Picardië tegen de Champagne aan. Het dorp ligt in een typisch Noord-Frans landschap met heuvels en een agrarische uitstraling. Curemonte telt maar liefst twee kastelen, want ondanks dat het dorp in het westen van Frankrijk niet groot is, heeft het in het verleden in de regio een rol gespeeld. Het mooie dorpje ligt hoog in het landschap van de Corrèze, zodat je de contouren van de muren en de kastelen al van ver kan zien liggen.

Als je Tournemire nadert valt het oog onherroepelijk op het kasteel aan de zijkant van het dorp. Het Château d’Anjony lijkt nog het meest op een toren van een duur schaakspel en steekt hoog boven het dorp uit dat in een wijde vallei ligt, die ooit door een gletsjer is gevormd. In het mooie dorpje in de Auvergne hangt een prettige, mystieke sfeer en dat is goed voor twee sterren.
