Conflans ligt in het dal van Albertville in de Savoie midden in de Franse Alpen. Het dorp ligt op de plek waar de Arly in de rivier Isère uitmondt en daar heeft het dorp dan ook zijn naam aan te danken. Dankzij de strategische ligging hoog boven het dal beheerste Conflans eeuwenlange de omgeving. In de negentiende eeuw kwam daar een einde aan door de groei van Albertville waardoor het Middeleeuwse stadje zijn invloed zag dalen. Je hebt er prachtig uitzicht op de stad waar ooit de Olympische Spelen werden gehouden.

Het dorp Epoisses in de Côte d’Or is bekend om zijn kaas met zo’n sterke geur produceert dat je er gemakkelijk een halve straat mee plat krijgt. Maar het is ook een leuk dorp en mocht je er in de buurt zijn is het de moeite waard om even langs te rijden. En daar hoef je geen kaasliefhebber voor te zijn, al helpt het wel.

Sainte-Cécile ligt aan de Côte Opale, de opalen kust, in het noord-noord-noordelijkste stukje van Frankrijk. Even hard niezen en je bent weer in België. De Guide Michelin zwijgt het plaatsje dood. Veel toeristen komen er dus niet, wel aardig wat Fransjes die er een tweede huis hebben. Tieners zoeken vergeefs naar een disco, een volwaardige boekwinkel is er evenmin. Ook voor fraaie historische bouwsels moet je elders zijn.

Iets ten zuiden van Rouen ligt Le Bec-Hellouin dat is gebouwd naast een Benedictijns klooster. De abdij werd in de elfde eeuw gesticht door ene Hellouin, die zowel ridder als monnik was. Een combinatie die op ons nu raar overkomt, maar in die tijd kwam dit wel meer voor. Het klooster staat er nog, of beter gezegd weer. Het werd in de veertiende eeuw, tijdens de Honderdjarige oorlog tussen Engeland en Frankrijk, verwoest en later weer opgebouwd.

Belvès is één de ‘Plus beaux villages’ die zijn te vinden in de streek rondom de rivier Dordogne. Het dorp van is gebouwd op een kalkrots boven de riviertje Nauze en ligt niet ver van de bekende stad Sarlat. Eén van de pronkstukken van het dorp is de markthal uit de vijftiende eeuw met 23 eikenhouten palen waaronder iedere zaterdag nog altijd markt wordt gehouden. Onder het marktplein zijn holwoningen die meer dan 2.000 jaar geleden al bewoond werden.

Het kleine dorpje Loubressac ligt op een rots boven de vallei van de Dordogne in de regio Midi-Pyrénées. Het dorpje heeft een kasteel, een mooie kerk en is nog niet zo druk met toeristen zodat je hier nog de rustige sfeer van de Quercy kan beleven met een adembenemend uitzicht op het dal van de Dordogne.

De Luberon in het zuiden van Frankrijk is een ware schatkamer van mooie dorpen. Het bergachtige landschap herbergt tal van schilderachtige gehuchten en plaatsjes. In het zuidoosten van de Luberon ligt Ansouis met zijn kasteel die zich boven een doolhof van straatjes en steegjes uit toornt.

De Luberon is een bergmassief tussen de Vaucluse in het noorden en de rivier Durance in het zuiden en vormt zo de grens tussen het binnenland en de kuststreek van de Provence. Ansouis is één van de vele mooie dorpen die deze streek rijk is. De hoeveelheid plaatsjes met het predicaat ‘Les Plus Beaux Villages de France’ is hier groot maar in bijna elk gehucht in deze streek wil je wel oud worden. Dat gebeurt ook want in de bevolking van de Luberon stijgt behoorlijk dankzij de immigratie van met name noorderlingen.

Séguret ligt in het noorden van de Vaucluse en is gebouwd op de noordelijke kant van de bergen van de Dentelles de Montmirail, waardoor het uitkijkt op de vlakte van het prachtige Rhônedal. Het dorp  staat vol met prachtige oude huisjes en omdat het autovrij is, waan je je er in de middeleeuwen. De oostelijke oever van de Rhône wordt, in de buurt van Séguret, voor een groot deel gebuikt om druiven te verbouwen, waarvan vanzelfsprekend wijn wordt gemaakt.

Op een klein uurtje ten westen van Perpignan ligt het schilderachtige dorpje Eus. Dit oude gehucht is gebouwd op een berg met op de top een versterkt kerkje. In de straatjes en vanaf de pleintjes heb je een schitterend uitzicht op het dal van de Têt en de stad Prades met op de achtergrond de indrukwekkende berg Pic du Canigou.

Saint Lizier ligt ten zuiden van Toulouse en ongeveer 45 kilometer ten westen van Foix aan de rivier de Salat. Dit uitzonderlijke dorp heeft maar liefst twee kathedralen en een bisschoppelijk paleis. Daarnaast staat een groot deel van de Romeinse ommuring nog overeind. De nabij gelegen Pyreneeën zorgen voor een prachtige achtergrond en maken het stadje een bijzonder plekje in Frankrijk. Helaas behoort het dorp niet meer tot de mooiste dorpen van Frankrijk maar is zeker interessant en een bezoek waard.
